Name: Courtney Paradis
Years / Months at YCF: 5 Months
How did you hear about CrossFit in general and how’d you end up at Yankee CrossFit?
My sister and her husband have been doing CrossFit for 7 years and were always trying to get me to join. I work right next door to Yankee so it was a no brainer when I finally made the decision to join.
What reservations did you have before starting CrossFit / How or what did you do to overcome it?
I made a lot of excuses. Maybe CrossFit isn’t for me, I could always work out on my own, I could join other gyms that cost less per month, I could never do those “CrossFit Moves”. When all these excuses went on for years, I knew I finally needed to make a change and do something that will truly make me stronger mentally and physically.
How was your experience learning YCF CrossFit Foundations and how was it transitioning into classes?
I was super nervous but everyone including Maddy, my On-Ramp coach, made me feel really welcomed, encouraged and showed a ton of support. I was also really nervous about transitioning but the coaches are great and made that process really easy!
What differences have you seen in your day to day life that has impacted you positively since starting at YCF?
My mindset has changed. I wanted this to stick and I wanted to make an entire lifestyle change. I didn’t want to give up after just a couple months. Going to Yankee is now something I do on a weekly basis and I don’t even think about it.
Is there anything specific that has happened (physically, mentally, emotionally) that wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t take that leap and start?
So many! Weight that I’ve struggled to lose for years, definitely physically stronger, in better shape and I now have an overall attitude of living a healthy lifestyle. I haven’t felt this great in years!
Why do you keep coming back to YCF? What’s the difference between us and another gym?
Every class is different so your never bored doing the same work out, I love the friends I have made and everyone is there to support one another. It’s really an awesome community!
What do you love the most about CrossFit in general and YCF?
I love the challenge. I’m challenged every work out and I want to improve each time. During some of the toughest work outs, everyone at Yankee is there cheering you on until the end.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about joining YCF?
Do not be intimidated. I would watch my sister work out and think there is no way I could do that. Everyone has to start somewhere. Make your health a priority!
